Solar Street Light & Phone Charger
I explored a practical use for solar energy by combining a street-lighting prototype with a phone-charging point and analog circuitry.

About this project
I wanted this project to connect a renewable-energy idea with something useful in everyday life. The prototype combines solar-powered lighting with a mobile-phone charging point, bringing two practical functions into the same system.
The circuit work involved diodes and operational amplifiers. That made the project a useful connection between the analog electronics I was studying and a complete application, where the power source and the lighting and charging functions have to be considered together.
For me, the value of the project was seeing an electronics concept become a practical lighting-and-charging arrangement. It also encouraged me to think more carefully about how energy is used in a small system. I describe it as a prototype; I do not attach unmeasured charging rates, battery endurance or efficiency figures to it.
What it does
- Solar energy as the power source
- A street-lighting function
- A mobile-phone charging point
- Analog circuit work involving diodes and operational amplifiers
